Titles Research.

The Final Destination.

When The Final Destination begins the title appears within the first screen shot, and it lasts about 4 seconds. However as the music in the background gets faster more blood appears and the title grows bigger, this is building tension for the audience as it becomes daunting. This is something which we could apply to our film opening, as before you have seen any pictures or violence blood appears which shows the audience something bad is going to happen.

I believe the way that they show people's name is effective; this is because they have incorprated pictures by the titles so it isn't just a plain screen which makes the audience have to look at other things, such as the skeleton with a bar through its head which is next to it. However after they have shown one name they go back to showing daunting things, such as when that sharp bar breaks though the glass. Straight after the bar has shattered the glass it cuts to another scene where they show a name, where the bar has gone through the skeletons head. This again distracts the audience to look at the skeleton rather than the name. The way we could use this in our film opening would be to try and have a distracting image when we are showing names.

Also in the Final Destination film titles there are two interesting cuts, the first one being where you see a human hand reach for a knife and then it cuts to an x-ray vision of the knife going in someones chest, then a name appears. I believe this is a good way of showing names as it is distracting.

SE7EN.

This is the second name which is shown within the opening titles, I like the way that they have used different fonts for the name and the production. By doing this it makes it more clearer for the audience to see who produced the film, in total this certain one lasts for 2 seconds which I believe is just the right amount of time.

The third name which they use is also effective this is because the titles fill in the gaps of the picture which again makes it easier for the audience to see. We could use this in our film by in-corperating our titles over an image which will attract our audience.

The title of the film is shown half way in between the titles which I find interesting as people usually leave this nearer the end. After they have shown the titles there are 4 cuts which show other images.

EVALUATION
By doing some research into titles made me have a much clearer view on what makes a good horror opening. In the film "The Final Destination" the transitions between both of the cuts were very clearly shown which made it more effective. In our film opening we have sped up some of the scenes to shorten our time which made our opening more better. However we have also in-corperated our characters names when they appear, this could be the same as the Final Destination as when a name appears - so does a skeleton. This could have an implied meaning that this person is in some sort of danger.
