Fonts for Credits Research.

When we begin to write our credits we must make sure we pick the write font to suit our genre, it must also be clear and easy to read. I've been looking on http://www.dafont.com/ and found a few fonts which I believe would suit our genre very well. We haven't finished editing our film yet and we still have many parts which we need to cut down to make it shorter, we are planning on making our credits last about 30 seconds in total. By making our credits last around 30 seconds it will just take our film over 2 minutes which shouldn't be a problem.

EVALUATION
After trying these different fonts on our credits we came to the conclusion that none of them were showing up very clear and didn't support our genres in the right way. HOWEVER we found a new font which we believe goes well with our which is...

In this image the font doesn't look very clear, but when we have a black background and we change the font to white it looks very effective.

Titles Research.

The Final Destination.

When The Final Destination begins the title appears within the first screen shot, and it lasts about 4 seconds. However as the music in the background gets faster more blood appears and the title grows bigger, this is building tension for the audience as it becomes daunting. This is something which we could apply to our film opening, as before you have seen any pictures or violence blood appears which shows the audience something bad is going to happen.

I believe the way that they show people's name is effective; this is because they have incorprated pictures by the titles so it isn't just a plain screen which makes the audience have to look at other things, such as the skeleton with a bar through its head which is next to it. However after they have shown one name they go back to showing daunting things, such as when that sharp bar breaks though the glass. Straight after the bar has shattered the glass it cuts to another scene where they show a name, where the bar has gone through the skeletons head. This again distracts the audience to look at the skeleton rather than the name. The way we could use this in our film opening would be to try and have a distracting image when we are showing names.

Also in the Final Destination film titles there are two interesting cuts, the first one being where you see a human hand reach for a knife and then it cuts to an x-ray vision of the knife going in someones chest, then a name appears. I believe this is a good way of showing names as it is distracting.

SE7EN.

This is the second name which is shown within the opening titles, I like the way that they have used different fonts for the name and the production. By doing this it makes it more clearer for the audience to see who produced the film, in total this certain one lasts for 2 seconds which I believe is just the right amount of time.

The third name which they use is also effective this is because the titles fill in the gaps of the picture which again makes it easier for the audience to see. We could use this in our film by in-corperating our titles over an image which will attract our audience.

The title of the film is shown half way in between the titles which I find interesting as people usually leave this nearer the end. After they have shown the titles there are 4 cuts which show other images.

EVALUATION
By doing some research into titles made me have a much clearer view on what makes a good horror opening. In the film "The Final Destination" the transitions between both of the cuts were very clearly shown which made it more effective. In our film opening we have sped up some of the scenes to shorten our time which made our opening more better. However we have also in-corperated our characters names when they appear, this could be the same as the Final Destination as when a name appears - so does a skeleton. This could have an implied meaning that this person is in some sort of danger.

First Filming Review

After uploading our film to I-Movie Beth and I were able to see some of the things that we need to do to make sure our film runs smoothly and that it makes sense. Here is a list of bullet points that we have to correct on Thursday 19th January:

·      -Establishing shot of the house - this is because the audience then have a clear view of where it is set as before this wasn't clear.
·     - (Film some on Joel’s camera) - the video camera that we have used isn't as clear as we would like so we thought by filming on Joels camera could make it more clearer.
·     - ‘Villain’ walking around the side of the house and opening backdoor. Same shot look at Lil through stairs.
·     - When Chrissie shouts  ‘Lil, Lil” do a POV (point of view) shot of the villain  to look at Chrissie. (Show all of her).
·     - When Lil sat on the sofa to walk to the stairs, do again as you can hear the tripod in the background panning.
·     - Not POV when she turns on the light and looks up the stairs, this will then make it more of a clearer transition.
·     - Chrissie says “Lil I heard a strange noise” instead of "Lil I can't sleep" as the lighting then makes it more clearer and it better timed.
·     - Lights go out, we need to film this so it is an easier understanding for our audience.
·      -POV shot, Lil panicking in the dusk this again makes it more clear to the audience how she is feeling.
·     - Lights come on, Lil screaming and Chrissies not there, to show what the victim is afraid of.
·      -Chrissie on decking – film in dusk so the lighting is better timed.
-Shot continues to run up the hill. POV shot - showing her feelings and enabling the audience to feel the emotion to.
·     - Lil needs to have shoes on when she is on the sofa for consistency.
·      -Film Ellie in the tree strangling Lil for consitency.
·     - 2 different POV shots of Lil running out of the house looking like she is being watched.

Costume Research.

Victim
My partner Beth Hawker did some research on the film "A Stranger Calls", the victim in this film is just a usual girl with simple clothes. "Jill" wears jeans and a normal top, this is a very simple costume which we may apply to our film opening. By portraying to the audience a naive and average character it helps to increase their fear levels.

Villain
In the shots 14-17, which is nearer the end our 4 Villains appear from the woods behind our victim. The image we are trying to portray is people who are abnormal and scary, as people will be able to relate this to there worst nightmares. We are also planning on using fake blood, this is symbolic as it shows that they have killed people before; ' they have blood on their hands'. From the image below you can see how this villain appears as daunting because you cannot see there identity.

Young Child
imgres.jpgIn our film we have 2 victims, one being our main character Olivia and our other being our young child Chrissie. We are planning on portraying our young girl as innocent and vulnerable. The way we are doing this is to curl her hair and put bows in it, this is so she appears young and cute.
